Attendance Policy

This letter is to inform you of our lateness and absence policies. Your child needs to arrive to school on time, if your child should arrive to school after the late bell, they will be considered late and must report to the main office to obtain a late pass.

The following are the consequences regarding lateness:

  • 5 times late - Student will receive 2 detentions and unexcused absences counted towards truancy
  • 5 unexcused latenesses - Student will receive 1 unexcused absence
  • 10 times late - Student will receive one day alternative education and two unexcused absences counted towards truancy
  • 15 times late - Student will receive two day alternative education and three unexcused absences counted towards truancy
  • 20 times late - Student will receive 3 days alternative education and four unexcused absences counted towards truancy.

Greater than 20 times late - Student will be subject to administrative consequences

The following are the consequences regarding unexcused absences counting toward truancy:

  • 5 absences - Student will receive 2 detentions 
  • 10 absences - Student will receive one day alternative education and student will be considered truant** 
  • 12-18 absences - Student will receive two days alternative education and student will be mandated to summer school for credit recovery at the expense of the student 
  • 20 absences or greater - Student will be subject to administrative consequences which could result in student being retained.

"Excused absence" is a student's absence from school for a full day or a portion of a day for the observance of a religious holiday pursuant to N.JS.A 18A:36-14 through 16, for Take Your Child To Work Day, or any other absence determined to be excused by the New Jersey Department of Education.

"Truancy" means ten or more cumulative unexcused absences that count toward truancy of a student between the ages of six and sixteen as determined by the Board's Attendance Policy and Regulation pursuant to N.J.A.C. 6A:16-7.6(a)4.iii and the definition of school day pursuant to N.J.A.C. 6A:32-8.3.
